Update History
(major updates marked with dates in red)
7/04/05 - Dead and trivial links removed from California section.
7/02/05 - Starting a major
revision and update of the site. Dead links will be cleaned up, many
trivial links will be removed. Emphasis will shift mainly to sites that
offer some information, with some exceptions made for some sites that
have unique photos or other content. "Best Of" and "Arizona" links have been cleaned up.
6/30/03 - Removed most links from Tours section, leaving only those that have a principal focus on rock art.
6/26/03 - Dead links
removed from Utah and Tours sections; site is now reasonably clear of
dead links. It's likely that I'll go through the tour section at some
point in the future, and remove all links that don't refer to tours
whose primary focus is rock art. Sometime in the next few weeks, I will
add a few new links as well, some of which have been waiting quite a
while for addition.
6/28/03 - Dead links
removed from New Mexico. Also, page with links to rock art sites for
the rest of the US and Canada was removed. It's difficult to keep even
the Southwest pages up to date, and clear of dead links; keeping the
links to the rest of the US and Canada updated, even in the simplest
form, was just impossible, and I'm not even going to try anymore.
6/26/03 - Dead links removed from Colorado, Texas.
6/25/03 - Dead links removed from Baja California.
6/24/03 - Dead links removed from Southern California.
6/23/03 - Update even
slower than anticipated. Arizona, Nevada and "Best" pages have just had
most of the dead links removed; I will work slowly through the rest as
time permits.
1/13/03 - First major
update in close to two years; sorry about that. I am going through the
long, slow, and painful process of checking and fixing or removing dead
links. Once that's done, I will add a few new ones, but it's going to
take a while. I've already started with Arizona, and will update my
progress on a regular basis.
2/26/01 - Site has been
down for about a month, thanks to complications arising from a web
provider change. There may still be a few problems with various links;
please bear with me as I get them all fixed up. The site will stay here
for an indeterminate period before reaching its final destination
(hopefully without ads at the top). Note: If you bookmark this site,
use the following address, http://www.pobox.com/~quits, and you'll never have to worry about this site changing its address again; the preceding address will
always forward you to the current and correct address.
6/21/00 - Links for rest of US and Canada now up.
5/14/00 - Utah and General Southwest completed.
Update for rest of US and Canada will probably be up in a month or so.
5/5/00 - Updates of all
states except for Utah and General Southwest, with a fair number of new
links. All rock art tours moved to Tours section. Remaining updates
should be completed shortly. Update for rest of US and Canada will
probably be up in a month or so.
3/29/00 - All links verified, and most dead links removed.
3/28/00 - Major update Real Soon Now. I should be finished with
verifying current links in a day or so, and will start adding new links
after that. Note: If you bookmark this site, use the following address,
http://www.pobox.com/~quits, and you'll never have to worry about this site changing its address again; the preceding address will
always forward you to the current and correct address.
11/6/99 - Fixed a whole bunch of links in the Texas section to
the Handbook Of Texas Online; they apparently change document numbers
and links at will. If they change again, I'll have to come up with a
different way to link to those pages that won't change.
10/2/99 - Major update - lots of new links in most sections.
9/18/99 - Cleaned out or fixed a whole bunch of dead links in
preparation for a major update (which should be up in less than two
weeks).
7/29/99 - I'm working on adding in about 250 additional links; no idea on when they will go up.
6/19/99 - The site was moved to a new address
on a new server. No more space-wasting Geocities ad at the top of the
home page; no more annoying pop-up ads on secondary pages; no more
"transparent G" in the lower right-hand corner.
6/11/99 - Added even more links; almost completely caught up with my backlog.
6/7/99 - Major update -
over 200 new links. New section with rock art websites for the rest of
the US and Canada, roughly sorted by state and sometimes by location.
6/1/99 - Removed a large number of broken links, and fixed some other links.
3/6/99 - At last, the big
update I've been promising for the longest while!! New section on Baja
California, and lots of new links (though I'm still backed up with a
lot of links that I just don't have the time or energy to put up now
:-).
2/19/99 - At the request of the managing agency, removed links
related to one rock art site. They are working on an interpretive plan
for the site, but want to minimize visitation in the meantime, since
they don't have the manpower to supervise the site appropriately.
2/13/99 - No, I haven't updated the site, but I'm working on it. When you have several hundred more links to add, it takes a while ...
12/29/98 - Cleaned out a few dead links from the New Mexico section.
12/28/98 - Cleaned out a few dead links from the Utah section.
12/20/98 - Major revision of the Southwest Archaeology Virtual Bookstore site; hopefully, it's a little easier to use now. Cleaned out a few dead links from the California section.
12/17/98 - So maybe I had a few minutes after all ... Only
removed a few dead links from Arizona, and fixed a few other links that
moved. Found a new free service for checking links on a website, NetMechanic; highly recommended.
12/8/98 - Don't have time
this holiday season for a full update; I've got over 150 links backed
up, a new category to add for Baja California, not to mention comments
on the sites currently listed. Therefore, I'm posting what I have
(close to 80 new links, plus removal of about a half-dozen dead ones),
and will get back to finishing the site sometime in January, maybe. You
can help me out by reporting any dead or wrong links you come across.
Also added this update section. Thanks, and have a good holiday season!
